learning with children & young people
At Hares Corner Cooperative, we believe that fostering a connection with nature from an early age is key to building a more sustainable and mindful future. Through engaging and hands-on activities, we provide opportunities for children and young people to explore the natural world, develop their curiosity, and deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship. Our programmes emphasise play, discovery, and the joy of learning outdoors, nurturing a lifelong appreciation for the environment.
Our Environmental Learning Programme is rooted in seven years of experience running the Garvagh Forest School as part of the Garvagh People’s Forest Project. This journey has been enriched by a wonderful partnership with Carhill IPS, Garvagh PS, Gorran PS, Kilrea PS, St Columba’s PS (Ballerin), and St Patrick’s & St Joseph’s PS. Together, we have developed and collated a valuable collection of Outdoor Learning Resources, blending insights from educators and the joy of discovery through nature.

TRAINING THE EDUCATORS
We are committed to equipping educators with the tools and knowledge to integrate environmental learning into their practice, inspiring both early years educators and youth workers. Our training sessions highlight the well-being benefits of nature and provide practical strategies for environmental education. Participants engage in hands-on activities such as sensory exploration and play-based learning, deepening their connection with the natural world and discovering new ways to nurture curiosity and creativity in children.
These sessions emphasise the importance of children and young people’s right to a clean and sustainable environment while promoting personal well-being and reflection for educators. By championing outdoor learning and environmental stewardship, our training programmes empower practitioners to foster meaningful, sustainable connections with nature in their communities.
